Kid's Sewing Classes

Kayla Walker, classroom instructor and approved EFA vendor with Arkansas Department of Education, in partnership with Pinwheel Fabrics now offers Kid’s Sewing Classes for students in grades first through twelve that are beginner friendly. Please note – Intermediate classes are available, upon request.

The classes are a fun, hands on introduction to basic sewing skills designed for young learners. The instructor demonstrates techniques and assists individually, ensuring that each student can work at their own pace.

The atmosphere is supportive, relaxed and creative, with an emphasis on building confidence, practice fine motor skills, and learning to follow simple steps. The class focuses on fun, exploration and celebrating progress rather than perfection. It will also serve as an opportunity to make friends and share ideas.

Students will create small, achievable projects such as pillows, bags, bookmarks, PJ pants, pillow cases, notebook covers, small quilts, etc. From a fine arts perspective, students will choose fabrics, colors, and embellishments to personalize their projects based on their style and imagination and build creative confidence. Overall, this class helps young crafters develop useful life skills while enjoying a playful, imaginative introduction to the world of sewing.

Kid’s Sewing Classes are taught at Pinwheel Fabrics in Bryant, AR two or three times per month on Thursdays (or otherwise scheduled). There are two sessions. The first session is from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM and the second session is from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM. Your child may attend one or both sessions.

Each session is $25, plus the cost of your tools and supplies. You may purchase a sewing machine or rent one from Pinwheel Fabrics for $10 each session. Tools needed for every class –

•          Fabric Scissors
•          Snips (small scissors for cutting threads)
•          Sewing Clips
•          Seam Ripper (recommend Clover (white))
•          Frixion Pen
•          Tape Measure (flexible)
•          50 Weight Cotton Thread (recommend Aurifil (neutral color)

Supplies needed for each class will vary depending on the project, but most projects can be made for a nominal amount of $15 or less.

To secure your child’s spot in class, it is recommended that you sign up for all sessions within a semester at the same time. This is not mandatory, but preferable for planning purposes.

Refund Policy – The session fees are non-refundable as much time and effort goes into planning for a successful class based on the established class roster. If a child cannot attend their assigned session due to illness, we will make every effort to accommodate a child in a different session.
